Latest: PlayMetrics delayed — 2027 registration stays on Sports Connect

Little League International has notified leagues that the next version of PlayMetrics Central Registration is not available at this time. Onboarding and the ability for leagues to open registration on PlayMetrics had been anticipated around June 1, 2026, but "unanticipated delays in implementation" mean that solution isn't ready for leagues yet.

To minimize disruption to league and district operations, registration for the 2027 season will run on Sports Connect — the same as the 2026 season — starting Tuesday, June 9, 2026. Little League says it is continuing to work with PlayMetrics on the updated Central Registration experience and will keep communicating updates. No new firm PlayMetrics launch date has been announced.

What's Changing for Little League Leagues

At the 2026 Little League International Congress, Little League announced that PlayMetrics would power Little League Central Registration, replacing Sports Connect — a change originally expected to land for the 2027 season.

That timeline has slipped. In June 2026, Little League International told leagues that "unanticipated delays in implementation" mean the PlayMetrics solution is not available right now. To keep disruption to a minimum, 2027-season registration will run on Sports Connect — the same as 2026 — opening Tuesday, June 9, 2026.

In short: nothing about your registration platform changes for 2027. You stay on Sports Connect. PlayMetrics is still the stated long-term direction, but there is no firm launch date, and Little League has committed to communicating updates as the work progresses.

The Sports Connect → PlayMetrics Timeline

    1. 2026 Season

      Sports Connect — no change

Leagues run registration and operations on Sports Connect as usual. A good window to clean up your volunteer data and decide how you'll preserve compliance records through whatever comes next.

    2. ~June 1, 2026 (delayed)

      PlayMetrics onboarding target missed

Little League had anticipated leagues would be able to onboard and open registration on PlayMetrics around this time. Unanticipated implementation delays mean the PlayMetrics Central Registration solution is not available to leagues at this point.

    3. June 9, 2026

2027 registration opens — on Sports Connect

Because of the PlayMetrics delay, registration for the 2027 season opens on Sports Connect on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, just as it did for the 2026 season.

    4. 2027 Season

      Runs on Sports Connect

With the migration pushed back, leagues manage 2027 registration and operations on Sports Connect rather than transitioning to PlayMetrics as previously expected.

    5. Date TBD

      PlayMetrics Central Registration, when ready

Little League says it is still working with PlayMetrics to deliver an updated Central Registration experience and will communicate updates as the timeline firms up. No new launch date has been confirmed.

How to Prepare While the Timeline Is Uncertain

The PlayMetrics migration is delayed, not cancelled. A practical checklist for Little League administrators staying ready for the move while running 2027 on Sports Connect:

    • Register for the 2027 season on Sports Connect when registration opens June 9, 2026 — the platform isn't changing this year.
    • Keep a current export of your volunteer roster, background-check status, and uploaded documents from Sports Connect, so you're ready the moment PlayMetrics onboarding does open.
    • Audit who is actually cleared today — flag expired or missing JDP background checks, Abuse Awareness, and Diamond Leader training.
    • Confirm your state-specific requirements (concussion, sudden cardiac arrest, and any CPR/AED mandates) so they don't get lost whenever the platform does change.
    • Stand up an independent system of record for volunteer compliance so a future registration migration never resets your cleared/not-cleared data.
    • Watch for Little League's updates on the PlayMetrics timeline, and communicate to your board and volunteers that 2027 stays on Sports Connect — most questions are about which platform to use and when.

Keep Your Volunteer Compliance Through the Move

A shifting platform timeline is exactly where leagues get exposed. The migration was expected for 2027, then delayed; whenever PlayMetrics does arrive, your volunteer compliance records have to survive the move intact. Tying who's cleared to whichever registration platform you happen to be on that season is the risk.

Sports Connect today offers integrated JDP background checks and volunteer document uploads. PlayMetrics is adding a "Volunteer Verification" capability to track background-screening status, but as of June 2026 it is still rolling out and the depth of its custom-role and reporting features is not yet publicly documented.

Volunteer Tracker tracks your volunteer compliance independently of your registration platform — annual JDP background checks, Abuse Awareness and Diamond Leader training, and your state's concussion, sudden cardiac arrest, and CPR/AED requirements — with custom roles, automated reminders, and one-click reporting.

Because Volunteer Tracker is separate from registration, you can stand it up now on Sports Connect, keep a clean compliance record through the delay, and carry it straight into the PlayMetrics era whenever that finally arrives — without a gap in who's cleared to be on the field.

Volunteer Tracker fully supports Sports Connect today — and we plan to fully support PlayMetrics the same way. Whichever platform your league is on before, during, or after the migration, your volunteer compliance tracking keeps working without interruption.

PlayMetrics and Volunteer Tracker: Volunteer Compliance Compared

PlayMetrics is your registration and operations platform — keep using it. Volunteer Tracker is the flexible compliance layer that sits on top. Here's how the two fit together for volunteer compliance.

What Volunteer Tracker Adds On Top of PlayMetrics

PlayMetrics stores documents and marks people cleared. Volunteer Tracker handles everything that keeps them cleared — by role, with due dates, reminders, and expiration tracking a registration platform isn't built for.

    Role-based requirements

Managers, coaches, snack-bar parents, and board members each get their own requirement set — and only see what they actually need.

    Due dates & automatic reminders

Every requirement carries a due date, and volunteers are reminded automatically for upcoming and overdue items — so you stop chasing people by email.

    Expiration management

Track each certification's own expiration and renewal window — JDP, Live Scan, CPR/AED, and more — instead of a single cleared/not-cleared checkbox.

    Valid all season long

Require a certification to stay valid through the entire season. Anyone who would lapse mid-season is flagged now — not after an incident.

    Clear dashboards & reporting

Every volunteer sees “what do I need to do?”, and admins get league-wide compliance reporting and exports of exactly who's outstanding.

    Completely flexible

Not tied to any provider or training. Track any background check, training, certification, or task — and add new ones as laws change, like California's AB 310 CPR/AED rule.
